Antique cedar chest up for auction in Westmeath fundraiser

The treasure will be auctioned off to support the campaign (Photograph supplied)

A second-hand clothes and goods retailer is to auction an antique cedar chest as part of a sponsorship collaboration aimed at enhancing the quality of life of seniors.

Orange Bay Company has launched its official sponsorship of A Life Well Lived, a campaign to raise $35,000 for clients of Westmeath Residential and Nursing Care Home.

The drive, which runs until May 15, was designed to focus on the provision of upgrades to the home as well as the funding of mobility aids, outdoor gardening, community outings, music therapy and bedding replacements.

As part of the scheme, a cedar chest that was discovered in the attic of Westmeath will be sold off in a silent auction.

There are also several sponsorship packages available for donors of the campaign to support.

Delight Morris, the founder of Orange Bay Company, said: “As a company rooted in meaningful spaces and thoughtful legacy, this partnership makes perfect sense for us.

“Orange Bay has always believed that beauty, purpose and care should extend into every part of our lives, including where we honour and support our elders.

“Westmeath has been doing the quiet, dignified work of care for decades. This campaign helps uplift that work."

Natalie Chaves, the chairwoman of the board at Westmeath, added: “We are deeply appreciative of Orange Bay Company for sponsoring this resident wellness-focused fundraising campaign.

“What began as a humble request to Delight Morris to help clear out Westmeath's attic led to the discovery of a cedar chest. It quickly became clear that this was something special, and from that moment the campaign began to take shape.

“Often, Bermuda's seniors are overlooked when it comes to giving but how we treat them truly reflects who we are as a community.”

The Bermuda cedar chest, from circa 1700, will be sold via silent auction and can be viewed at Orange Bay Company.

Bids can be submitted by e-mail to delight@orangebaycompany.com until May 15.

Andrea Casling, a local antique dealer, said: "This exquisite antique Bermuda cedar chest is so very Bermudian, with its onion feet, detailed dovetailing and scalloped apron replicating the roll of our ocean.

“It is a treasure, as are our fabulous elders."

By supporting this initiative, donors can make a direct impact by funding a variety of products and services.
