Port Royal station reopen for business
The revamped Port Royal Esso station has reopened after a three-month closure.
The facility on Middle Road, Southampton, closed for renovations at the beginning of the year and reopened this week.
In January, Che Barker, a retail sales executive for station owner Sol Petroleum Bermuda, said that during the closure, piping at the site was to be brought up to environmental code.
Other works included replacing the canopy and improving the store.
Mr Barker explained: “The store itself is the same size but we went in with the team from our network, took a look at the gondolas and thought how we could provide more space in that same area.
“It’s not completely new but it looks great on the inside and I think people will be impressed with the look.”
He added: “We’re thrilled to have that site back open in the West End. The community is very reliant on that station so to have it back open and available to them is exciting.
“We’re also glad to be able to put our staff back to work, especially during what is a difficult time of year with everything going on in the world.”
Mr Barker said that two Sol stations – Collector’s Hill and Esso City – would undergo renovations, with one expected to take place next year.
Station dealer Tamara De Silva said the site had a “soft launch” on Monday and a grand reopening is expected soon.
