Cameron Adkins wins silver for Bermuda at Carifta Games

Cameron Adkins on the podium with his silver medal

Cameron Adkins has won Bermuda’s first medal at the 2025 Carifta Games when finishing second in the under-17 boys 1,500 metres.

Adkins worked his way through the field and was the only young athlete alongside eventual winner Christopher Sammy, of host nation Trinidad & Tobago, with a lap to go.

While the winner pulled away to win in 4min 09.65sec, Adkins showed heart as the lactic acid began to kick in, looking over his shoulder inside the final 200 metres as the tiredness took hold.

But he had enough strength to finish in 4:12.86 to hold off Jamaican Luke Plummer to claim the silver medal, the island’s first at the Carifta Games this year.

In the other finals with Bermuda representation on Saturday night in the Hasley Crawford Stadium, Jake Smith finished sixth in the under-20 boys 1,500 metres in 4:07.99.

Riana Robinson was unlucky in the girls under-17 1,500 metres after being tripped on the first lap and dropping to last place. However, the young athlete showed tremendous fortitude to pick herself up and pass a number of runners in the field, eventually finishing tenth of the 14 runners in 5:18.81.
