Theatre group seeks performers with the ‘golden ticket’
The Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Bermuda invited actors and singers to join them in a world of pure imagination as it prepares to stage Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
It will put on a performance of the hit Broadway musical, based on the titular book by Roald Dahl, as its 2025 show, with auditions scheduled to take place next month.
Jamie Wilkin, the director for the production, said he was blown away by the level of local talent that took part in his past G & S shows Mamma Mia, The Addams Family, Shrek and Magic of the Musicals 2.
Mr Wilkin said: “Last year lots of new faces came forward — many who had not been on stage for years, even decades — it was such a joy to watch their confidence grow in rehearsals and then shine in the spotlight.
“Joining the show is certainly demanding, but being surrounded by such a talented and wonderful group makes it an incredibly enjoyable experience.
“If performing isn’t your thing, be sure to mark your calendar — this show promises to be spectacular, and you won’t want to miss it.”
In addition to the song Pure Imagination, from the 1971 film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, the musical features new music from the writers of the hit musical Hairspray.
Katrina Kawaley-Lathan, the G & S president, said the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory musical brings to life Dahl’s magical story of Charlie exploring Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory, and is timely with the recent successful Wonka movie.
Auditions for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory are scheduled to take place between May 16 and 18, with rehearsals to start on August 19.
The show itself is scheduled to run from October 2 to 11.
