Motorists banned from driving for multiple speeding offences

Two motorists were banned from driving all vehicles for six months after committing several speeding offences.

Tamisha Smith, 44, from St George’s, was fined $300 after pleading guilty to driving at 60km/h in Magistrates’ Court yesterday.

She received a second fine of $280 after admitting driving at 58km/h in September 2023.

Senior magistrate Maxanne Anderson noted Smith had accrued 12 demerit points within two years and had to be taken off the road for six months.

When Smith asked not to be banned because she had problems walking and standing, Ms Anderson said that the ban was mandatory. She advised Smith to provide a medical certificate to the court.

Sayon Hassell, 21, also from St George’s, was given a similar punishment after pleading guilty to driving at speeds of 60km/h and 70km/h.

He was fined a total of $880 and banned from driving for six months.
