Governor calls for members on public service oversight group
The independent organisation that supervises appointments, promotions and disciplinary matters in the Public Service is now seeking expressions of interest.
Andrew Murdoch, the Governor, said would-be members could step forward for roles in the independent and politically impartial Public Service Commission, in consultation with the Premier and the Leader of the Opposition.
He added: “The work of the Public Service Commission is vital to an effective Public Service. It is critical to capacity building, as well as maintaining public confidence in the Public Service.”
The organisation, which answers to the Governor and is not a government department, is tasked with conducting its work “efficiently, fairly and without political interference”, he said.
“Members of the commission need to act with integrity, impartiality and independence,” Mr Murdoch added.
“The nature of the work necessitates either expertise and experience in human resources and/or legal experience with working knowledge of employment law matters.”
Requirements for the role are spelt out in sections 81 to 84 of the Bermuda Constitution.
Qualified potential candidates were asked to submit expressions of interest by e-mailing governmenthouse@gov.bm before 5pm on May 9.
A cover letter should outline the candidate’s reasons for wishing to serve, with details on what they can offer the role and confirmation that they have met eligibility requirements, and a curriculum vitae of two pages maximum.
Mr Murdoch said the expressions of interest would be held by Government House and be considered “as and when vacancies arise”.
