Island highlights intellectual property rights

The Department of Registry General has invited artists to join a public awareness campaign on intellectual property rights.

They will share insights through short videos and written reflections on how intellectual property rights shaped their careers, with their contributions showcased across the department’s platforms.

It will follow the island’s participation in World Intellectual Property Day tomorrow, with the Intellectual Property Office, which falls within the department, joining observances.

This year’s theme, “IP and Music: Feel the Beat of IP”, will highlight how intellectual property rights empower musicians, composers, producers and other creators.

A spokesman said that while the IPO is not required by law to register copyright works, the office remains committed to offering comprehensive advice — and intends to provide a voluntary registration system.

To learn more about intellectual property, join the global conversation by visiting the World Intellectual Property Organisation’s World IP Day 2025 website at www.wipo.int.

A short video about intellectual property and music can be found at multimedia.wipo.int.
