Students shine in art exhibition

Both public and private schools sent in a selection of projects to City Hall where they were judged on creativity, technique and use of space.

"It was very exciting to see what these kids can do,'' acting curator Bruce Stuart said. "Very few people explore themselves as artists and these kids certainly have.'' The students were given the opportunity to develop themes such as sculpture, colour rhythms, portraits, model making, mask designing and much more.

A total of 60 students received awards for their work.

They were selected by a panel of two public school judges, two private school judges and one representative from the Bermuda Society of Arts.

The winners from the Middle School at Sandys were: John Allen, Dion Cholmondeley, Raquel Raynor, DaJoune Smith and Shar-dae Whitter.

The Spice Valley Middle School awardees were: Carlton Butler, Rebekah Cabral, Estina Francis, Marissa Nanude and Aaron Scott.

The Dellwood Middle School winners were: Shay-Lene Brangman, Carlton Darrell, Javon Richardson, Kenisha Todd and Carlos Trott.

The Whitney Institute Middle School awardees were: Cornell Castle, Aaron Chase, Kelly Medeiros, Marcus Petty and Lashae Simons.

The Clearwater Middle School winners were: Makeda Dickinson, Rieo Paynter, Jenna Sewell, Kenton Trott and Tonya Trott.

The Berkeley Institute awardees were: Tiffany Alexander, Gershom Davis, Annesa Mason, Barbara-Ann Paynter and Rashe Somner.

The CedarBridge Academy winners were: Jahmeko Blakeney, D'Angelo Darrell, Nicholas DeRosa, Javaughn Dill, Kim Knights, Arndell Lightbourne, Settie Thompson and Zeno Warner.

The Bermuda High School for Girls awardees were: Carolyn O'Connor, Rachel Fuhrtz, Kristen Gonsalves, Nadine Hendricks and Jocelyn Powell.

The Saltus Senior School winners were: Marie-Louise Humphrey, Jenna Judd, Ashley Pearce, Zara Ward and Keino Williams.

The Warwick Academy awardees were: Jonathan Darrell, Lavina Darrell, Samantha Knight, Michael O'Connor and Tareer Somner.

And the Mount Saint Agnes Academy winners were: McCannon Cassidy, Aaron DeSilva, Sarah Lusher, Joey Rego, Jennifer Rhind, Danielle Taylor and Khari Thornhill.
