PHC hoping to seize title
Two successive defeats for misfiring CV Chargers have left the door open for PHC to snatch the Evening Cricket League’s First Division title from the long-time leaders.
PHC were scheduled to play St George’s in their final game on Tuesday night, needing a thumping win to overtake CV Chargers on net run rate.
But rain forced the game to be postponed until next week with the title — and promotion to the Premier League — still hanging in the balance.
CV Chargers, league newcomers this season, could have wrapped up the title, but lost their final game by six runs to lowly Deloitte, having slumped to an eight-wicket defeat against Bad Byes the previous week.
A half-century by opener Gerald Simons and 40 from No 3 Dheeraj Singh helped High Flyaz defeat North Village by eight wickets on Monday night and keep their hopes alive of securing a top-four place to earn a spot in next month’s knockout.
In the Premier League, The Associates nailed down the runners-up spot behind Tuff Dogs, who are already confirmed as league champions for the fourth successive season, after BCB Academy defaulted Monday’s game.
