Man pleads not guilty to murder
Wilfred (Oopie) Ming Jr. last September pleaded not guilty yesterday during his arraignment in Supreme Court.
And Che Tumang Pennyman, one of two men who were charged with the armed robbery of the Southampton Princess branch of the Bank of Butterfield in October, admitted to his crime, pleading guilty to one count of robbery and one count of using a firearm to commit a robbery.
He was remanded into custody until February 1 so a social inquiry report that had been prepared on him could be updated.
Pennyman, of Pembroke, was charged after the Bank of Butterfield branch was robbed of nearly $25,000 on October 14.
No one was injured during the robbery, although a shot was fired into the ceiling of the bank.
A third charge against Pennyman of possession of a firearm was dropped during yesterday's proceedings.
Meanwhile, Winston Wellington Burgess denied any responsibility for the Ming death, which occurred near a Water Street bar on September 10.
Ming, who lived with his parents on East Lane in St. George's, had been stabbed two weeks before he was to start school in New York.
Chief Justice the Hon. Mr. Justice Ward set down Burgess' case for mention on February 1.
In other arraignment news: Sandys teenager O'Neil Spence was formally charged with causing the death of Germaine Patrick Simmons by driving recklessly on June 9. He pleaded not guilty.
A Devonshire resident pleaded not guilty to a charge that he caused a woman serious bodily harm in a sexual assault on August 18. His bail was set at $10,000.
Lolita Orgill of Marsh Folly Road in Pembroke pleaded not guilty to a charge that she caused serious bodily harm to another girl on July 11. She was given bail of $1,000.
Linda Marie Weller was arraigned on charges that she committed acts of forgery, uttered a false document and obtained property by false pretences in her dealings with Gibbons and Company.
And Jeffrey Kwasi Osborne was arraigned on charges that he imported diamorphine on September 17 and possessed the drug with an intent to supply on September 26.
All cases were set down for mention on February 1.
In the meantime, Jacqueline Brangman and Sharon Tyrell, both of St. George's, were also given a Supreme Court trial date of April 17 yesterday for the alleged importation and possession of a controlled drug.
And Antoine Bean, 23, was scheduled for sentencing on January 17 after being convicted on five counts of stealing and three counts of robbery.

POLICE ARREST ARMED ROBBER CRM Police arrest armed robber Police have arrested a 21-year-old gunman who tried to rob a video store on Court Street over the weekend.
The man entered the store shortly after 6 p.m. last Friday and demanded money from the cashier.
Police said the cashier was unable to comply with the offender's demands and he fled the store empty handed.
Inquiries into the incident are continuing.
