Murder trial starts
death, a Supreme Court jury heard yesterday.
Attorney General Elliott Mottley, in his opening statement, told the four-man, eight-woman panel in the Gregory Howard Dill murder trial they will hear the deceased, David Riley, took a half bottle of wine which belonged to Dill.
Dill, 34, of Angle Street, has denied murdering David Riley on May 24.
Mr. Mottley said the jury would learn Dill went to David Riley's apartment and sought compensation for the wine.
He said David Riley died 12 days after being stabbed with a nine-inch knife which penetrated his stomach, liver and diaphragm to the lungs and severed major arteries.
A series of prosecution witnesses yesterday related how the two men had been fighting that day, though none could say what the argument was about.
At one point the victim was seen wielding a knife while the accused was brandishing a metal pipe, witnesses said.
One witness, Kent Lowe, said he had to separate the two men. A knife fell onto the floor, but he didn't know which of them dropped it. He did recall taking a pipe away from Dill and persuading him to leave the apartment they were all in.
Dill is represented by lawyer Archibald Warner.
The trial continues today before Chief Justice Austin Ward.
