Judge to rule on fate of robbery suspects
A judge could decide today whether two men being questioned in connection with an armed bank robbery should be released from Police custody.
Yesterday lawyer Archie Warner succeeded in a bid to have a writ of Habeas Corpus heard before the Supreme Court.
If he succeeds the judge will have to decide whether Mr. Warner's clients should face charges within a certain time or be released from Police custody.
Last Wednesday two shots were fired and more than $50,000 stolen during an armed raid on the Bank of Bermuda.
Police later arrested three men in connection with the noon robbery at the bank's Somerset branch. Police said a fourth man was helping them with their inquiries.
Although those being questioned have not been named The Royal Gazette understands they are Rupert Elroy Archibald, Vincent Sean Dill, Yusef DeSilva and Michael Eugene Dillas.
Mr. Warner is representing Archibald and Dillas and yesterday he filed writs of Habeas Corpus in their names.
Acting Puisne Judge Michael Mello yesterday gave Mr. Warner permission to have the writ heard in full today, but it is not known whether he will hear the case.
scheduled to be heard at 11 a.m. at the Supreme Court and comes because Mr.
Warner says his clients are being held by Police for more than the accepted limit of 48 hours .
It is understood Dill and DeSilva are not legally represented and no writs have been filed in their names.
