Jones hits gym in US Open qualifying bid
Nick Jones is hitting the gym as he gears up for another push at qualifying for the US Open. The Bermuda golfer has two weeks to get himself into shape before his regional qualifier at Timacuan Golf Club in Florida in two weeks time, where he will battle it out alongside hundreds of other hopefuls, all harbouring dreams of eventually playing alongside the likes of Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, and defending champion Graeme McDowell.Jones has been playing several events on the Moonlight Tour over the past month to get his game ready, however he has been taking a golf cart during those events, something he won’t be allowed to do at Timacuan.“I’m hitting the gym more now because we have to walk the course and lately I have been riding in the cart, so I’m getting ready for that process,” said Jones. “I don’t really have any expectations, I just want to do my best and execute when it is necessary, and live in the moment.“It’s a hard journey but I have high hopes and will focus on my fitness and the short game.” Jones has already played at Timacuan this month, with the Moonlight Tour stopping there last week for a two day event, and while he only finished 15, the 20-year-old is feeling good about his game.“Everything is pretty busy right now, but I’m just getting ready for the bigger event which is the US Open qualifiers,” said Jones.“My game is going decent, when I play well it is down to my short game and if I can make some putts then I would be shooting the scores I deserve and if I don’t it is an uphill battle.”US Open qualifying begins with the Regionals qualifiers in each region, with the top qualifiers moving on.n Dwayne Pearman continued his dominance of the Jack Daniels Golf Tour with a three-shot win over Scot Roy at Riddell’s Bay on Monday.Pearman shot a level-par 70 on a day when most of the field struggled with the high winds that battered the Island. Roy tried to keep pace but could do no better than a three-over 73. Chris Grantier and Paul Adams were tied for third, a distant seven shots further back.
