The Bermuda Commercial Bank’s (BCB) Board of Directors announced today that they have appointed two new members — Jeanne Atherden and Alan Gilbertson.

In a press release announcing the move, BCB, which focuses on corporate and private wealth clients, stated that both new members joined the board on December 18.

Ms Atherden, who has been vice president and account executive for Paragon Brokers (Bermuda) Ltd since 2007, is a graduate of McGill University with more than three decades of accounting, finance, and trust experience in management roles in several different business sectors in Bermuda.

BCB stated: “She is also a chartered accountant and a member of the Institute of Directors,” and added: “She began her career as an audit manager for Cooper & Lines and has since held various positions with the Bermuda Hospitals Board, Appleby, Spurling & Kempe, and the Bank of Bermuda (HSBC Group).

Ms Atherden is also a member of the KeyTech Limited board and of the Bermuda Hospital board, and is chairman of the Bermuda Health Council.

Mr. Gilbertson, who is one of the founding members of Orbis Investment Management Group in Bermuda, was its president until he retired in February 2000.

BCB said: “A chartered accountant, he earned an MBA with a first-class pass from the University of Cape Town.

“Mr. Gilbertson has close to 35 years of experience in the financial services and non-profit sectors in South Africa, Asia, and Bermuda.”

After Mr Gilbertson retired, he has been working as a volunteer in the non-profit sector, previously with Feedback Food Redistribution and now with FoodBank South Africa.

“He presently sits on the Board of Directors for the Bermuda Triathlon Association, Orbis Financial Limited, Orbis World Limited, The Global FoodBanking Network, and FoodBank South Africa,” the bank stated.

Chairman of the BCB board Michael Collier was quoted in the press release as saying: “BCB is pleased with the appointments of Ms. Atherden and Mr. Gilbertson.

“Our team and our Board will be further strengthened by these well established and highly regarded individuals. This is an exciting time for the Bank, and we are confident that they will both make positive contributions to our continuously growing Group of Companies. We look forward to the important new perspectives they will bring to help the Group further succeed in the future.”
