Rawlins shows doggedness with the bat

Dogged innings: Delray Rawlins

Delray Rawlins scored a dogged 20 not out in 55 minutes while batting at No 10 as Sussex crashed to a 196-run loss to Durham in the Specsavers County Championship match at the 1st Century County Ground yesterday.

Rawlins, who came to the crease at 197 for eight, faced 40 balls as he and Chris Jordan tried to delay the inevitable with a stand of 23 for the ninth wicket in ten overs.

The partnership ended with Jordan being caught behind for 44, which came off 88 balls in 115 minutes.

Rawlins and last man Aaron Thomason added 20 for the last wicket before Ben Raine sealed the Durham by having Thomason caught in slips for six to finish with impressive second-innings figures of six for 27.

Rawlins, a late inclusion in the first team, scored 56 and claimed three for 19 in the first innings as Durham scored 384. Durham then dismissed Sussex for 232 before scoring 284 for three declared in their second innings. Sussex play their next championship match against Northamptonshire from Sunday to next Wednesday.
