Derek Hayward, of Mary Victoria Road, Devonshire, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court last week to numerous counts of breaking and entering.

"I done something wrong and I've got to pay for it,'' Hayward told Senior Magistrate Will Francis yesterday.

Crown counsel Larry Mussenden told the court Hayward removed more than $6,000 worth of jewellery and cash from a home near his residence.

Some $5,000 worth of the stolen items were later recovered.

And on March 4 a school teacher at West Pembroke Primary School discovered Hayward rifling through her jacket at a school office. Nothing was stolen.

But on May 27 Hayward stole $1,230 worth of jewellery from a Devonshire apartment, said Mr. Mussenden.

Then on May 29, Hayward targeted Ticketmaster bingo machines inside the Ocean View Golf Club and the Mid Atlantic Boat and Sports Club. On the same day Police discovered a broken window at Arnold's Supermarket on Mill Reach Lane, Pembroke.

Although there were no witnesses to any of the break-ins and attempted break ins, Mr. Mussenden said Police investigators found his finger prints at all of the crime scenes.

On Thursday, Hayward said he had taken part in a drug rehabilitation programme in the US, but became "misled'' after returning home.

Mr. Francis noted Hayward was a first-time offender and remanded him in custody until the presentation of a social inquiry report on January 20.
