Perozzi ready to rumble

Bermuda boxer Teresa Perozzi will go toe-to-toe with American slugger Cimberley Harris in tonight's middleweight bout at the Berkeley Gym.

Perozzi looked calm and collected during last night's weigh-in at promoter Reuben Bean's Jiketsu Martial Arts Centre and said she was more than ready to combat the brawling style of her opponent.

"I'm happy she's here, I'm grateful she's here as I know what it's like to fight in someone else's country, and I think we will put on a good fight for the fans," she said.

The 37-year-old has not fought since losing the fight of her life against Russian steamroller Natascha Ragosina in a seven-belt battle in Magdeburg, Germany in 2008.

Prior to that Perozzi drew with Aasa Sandell in Karlstad, Germany, despite cracking the Swede's cheekbone and dominating the six-round fight.

Perozzi's opponent Harris, who has a record of 5-14, was also defeated in her last battle against the 'Coal Miners Daughter' Christy Martin.

Harris said she would be looking to 'rough up' the more stylish Perozzi with a no-frills brand of 'slug and move' boxing.

Perozzi had been scheduled to fight Harris on the Island back in 2007 but the lowly ranked slugger mysteriously pulled out of the deal at the last minute.

Reuben Bean, who is promoting tonight's Smashdown event, hopes to fix-up more fights for Perozzi in the future.

Tonight's show will also feature Sanshou, kickboxing and mixed martial arts.

Bean said: "We have produced a night of hot pugilist action, you will be entertained completely.

"There will be everything from martial arts and karate demonstrations, kung-fu and of course the main event between Cimberley Harris and Teresa Perozzi.

"Both fighters have trained very hard for this fight, they're in excellent condition so you can be guaranteed to be treated to a night of hard-hitting action."

The doors open at 7 p.m. with fights starting at 8 p.m. The cost is $50 in advance and/or $60 at the door.

Tickets can be purchased at the International Sports Shop, Down to Earth and Secrets.
