Balada takes up coaching role at BGA

Anna Balada

The Bermuda Gymnastics Association have confirmed the appointment of Anna Balada as their new assistant head coach.

Balada, who starts her new role as of September 1, will be leaving her present role on island as head coach at Quality Gymnastics where over the past four years she has been a major catalyst in the development of the club’s and Bermuda’s talented youngsters.

Balada, who honed her coaching skills at both university and through learning at the Olympic Training Centre in her home city of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, played a key role in helping Quality Gymnastics, at the old Berkeley Institute, flourish, to now boast a full competitive girls’ team which has already competed domestically and abroad.

In her new role with the BGA, she will join the existing coaching team of head coach Brian Le Roux, recreation coordinator Pilar Sanchez and senior coach Dermot McGrath.

Confirming her appointment on social media the BGA said: “The Bermuda Gymnastics Association (BGA) is happy to announce that Anna Balada, head coach at Quality Gymnastics, will be joining the BGA team effective September 1, in the capacity of assistant head coach, creating a team complement which will ensure a premium gymnastics programme going forward.”

Speaking previously, Balada outlined her ambitions of helping the island’s gymnasts reach their full potential.

“They definitely have the potential to make it to that Elite standard,” she said. “We have some really talented young gymnasts and I’m in no doubt they can achieve something in the future if they keep working hard.

“It’s all about nurturing these girls. It would be incredible to have a Bermudian Olympic gymnast. “I’ll do my best to try and make that dream happen one day, I’d love to have played a part in that achievement, there is no reason why that couldn’t happen in the future.
