Strong finish for Saints in Miami

Bermuda Laser sailor Jordan Saints was in good form at the 2010 Orange Bowl International Youth Regatta in Miami.

Bermuda Laser sailor Jordan Saints finished an impressive sixth at last week's 2010 Orange Bowl International Youth Regatta in Miami.Owen Siese, who represented Bermuda at the Youth Olympic last summer, came 22nd in his first ever Laser regatta, Jason Saints 26th, Mackenzie Cooper 54th, James Anfossi 72nd and Sarah Hopkin 126th.Hopkin had to carry 70 point penalties for break downs or ‘black flags' for being on the course side of the starting line within one minute of the starting signal. She finished in a respectable 38th position in her final race.Accompanying the young sailors at the four day event was Youth Olympic and ISAF Youth World's dinghy coach, Dino Weber, who said: “The boys' finishes were mostly in the top part of the fleet which was excellent.“It was a shame that we were not able to get more races in, allowing for a drop race.“With both the Saints boys and James Anfossi aging out of the youth category, I'm encouraged by the results of the next generation (Siese, Cooper and Hopkin) on their first try in the Laser.“I think they could all eventually meet the Bermuda Sailing Association standard to attend the Youth Worlds and other top events in the near future if they work hard.”The regatta had 189 Laser sailors racing in three size related classes Laser Full Rigs, Laser Radials and Laser 4.7s.It is widely regarded as one of the most competitive and popular youth sailing events in North America.
