St George’s water discolouration

Discoloured water off St George’s is not a cause for alarm, environmental watchdogs said tonight.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources said cloudy water in the area off the Causeway was caused by “fine sediment washing over the ground near the wastewater treatment plant, as a result of a new back-up disposal borehole being drilled.”
A department spokeswoman added: “The drilling has now ceased and alternative filtration techniques are being investigated to address sediment ahead of the drilling continuing.
“There are currently no pollution concerns and the Department notes that there is no risk to the public.”
