New leader at Eliza DoLittle Society
April Augustus is the new executive director of The Eliza DoLittle Society.
Ms Augustus, who has an extensive background working for social programmes in New York, replaces Jennifer Mahoney at the charity which feeds the homeless in Bermuda.
Her roles in New York included managing a domestic violence programme in the Bronx and director at a mental health shelter for single women.
She said: “I look forward to beginning this next chapter of my career and giving back to our community. There is nothing more gratifying than having a positive impact on the lives of those that we serve.
“I am eager to establish relationships with other third sector partners, the donor community and other organisations that we can develop synergies with.”
Kendaree Burgess, chairman of the Eliza DoLittle board, said: “We are delighted to welcome April to the team. We feel fortunate to have been able to secure someone of her calibre and look forward to the positive impact we know that she will have on the organisation.
“She brings with her a wealth of experience in the non-profit sector and has an incredible energy about her, which will certainly assist in driving the organisation forward.”
Ms Mahoney said: “I am pleased to have had the opportunity to work alongside April during her transition into the organisation and have no doubt that she will be successful in her new role.
“Moving on from a position such as this one always comes with a bit of sadness, but I feel the board selected an ideal candidate in April.”
