A man who raced away from two men on a bike who threatened him on a road near where another man was later stabbed relived the event at a Supreme Court trial yesterday.

Jahvon Mallory said he was riding along Harbour Road in the early hours when he was approached the men on a bike.

Mr Mallory told the court that he was riding west along the road at about 2.40am when he noticed another motorcycle with a rider and a passenger.

He said: “I had just passed Keith Hall Road. I noticed a bike travelling east at the bottom of the hill.

“It slowed down, came to a complete stop and turned off its lights.”

Mr Mallory said just after he passed the motorcycle, it turned around and started to follow him. He told the court the motorcycle accelerated and pulled up alongside his bike.

Mr Mallory said he asked the other rider what “the problem” was, but that he did not hear a reply.

He added: “I asked him again and then, as I approached Longford Hill or Longford Road, I thought I might turn in there to get away from them.”

The witness said he slowed down and fell behind the other motorcycle, which had also slowed, before he accelerated away. Mr Mallory said: “I turned back and I asked them one last time what their problem was.”

He said one of the two told him: “Get off your bike.”

He added: “It’s not a normal command. I just felt that they were up to something and I wanted no part of it. After that my mindset was ‘come and get me,’ so I sped off. I looked in my rear-view mirror and it looked like they were trying to catch up but after a while I lost sight of them.”

Mr Mallory added that bike’s rider did not have a helmet and wore a hoodie pulled tight over his face so only his eyes were exposed.

Alex Wolffe, from Southampton, is charged with wounding, intimidating and attempting to rob Boris Angalov on October 23 last year. It is also alleged that he intimidated Mr Mallory on the same day.

Mr Wolffe denies the charges.

Mr Angalov was stabbed outside his home in an attempted robbery after he was chased along Harbour Road by two men on a motorbike, one with a helmet and one without.

Kenlyn Swan, for the Crown, told a jury the attack on Mr Angalov happened not long after Mr Mallory was chased along the road and the victim’s descriptions of the two men involved were similar.

Ms Swan told the court that Mr Mallory was chased by two men with dark clothing on a motorcycle.

She said later that morning a motorcycle with two men matching the description given by Mr Mallory chased Mr Angalov’s motorbike as he travelled home from work in Dockyard.

She said: “It passed him, turned around, turned off its lights and pursued him.”

Ms Swan told the court the men on motorcycle tried to snatch a chain from the Mr Angalov’s neck, but he resisted and the chase continued until they reached his home.

She said: “Those two men attacked him. There was a fight and Mr Angalov was stabbed. He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and treated.”

Ms Swan added: “We say the defendant was one of those two men.”
