Lambe heads to Pan Am qualifiers
Andre Lambe will be battling for a place at the Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, when he competes at a qualifying event in Managua, Nicaragua.
The amateur welterweight and Jermel Woolridge, the Bermuda Boxing Federation national team coach, left the island yesterday for the ten-day event, which will involve 32 nations.
Middleweight Tyler Christopher has not made the trip because of travel limitations. Christopher and Lambe both competed at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, Colombia, last summer.
Lambe, who beat Mathankan Iranjan, of Gideon Boxing Academy in Scarborough, Ontario, in his previous outing in February, said: “I feel good; I’ve learnt a lot from the last few events, so I’m pretty confident. I’m not sure how many fights I have to do [to qualify]. I’m just preparing for many.”
The Pan American Games are scheduled to take place from July 26 to August 11. Boxing is one of the 39 sports on the programme. Ten men’s weight categories and five women’s will be contested.
