Queens Park Rangers have all but ruled out signing Nahki Wells on a permanent deal in the summer.

The Bermuda striker is on a season-long loan from Premier League side Burnley and has made a big impression at the west London club since he arrived earlier this season, leading the club’s goal scoring charts with eight goals in all competitions.

Indications were the club might try to sign Wells permanently, along with fellow loanees Tomer Hemed and Geoff Cameron from Brighton and Stoke City respectively, however, Lee Hoos, the chief executive at Queens Park Rangers, has told the Football-London website he does not think any deals for the trio are likely to happen.

“You never say never, but the likelihood is that they’ll go back to their parent clubs,” Hoos said. “I’m sure their clubs will have their own ideas on what to do with those players as well, so we just have to see how that goes.

“One of the good things about doing a loan is that you’re not committed. Instead of having a level of salary over three years, you only have it for one year and so you can manage it on a year-by-year basis.”

Wells, who missed a stoppage time penalty in Saturday’s 4-3 loss to Birmingham City, featured in last night’s 2-1 loss to Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

The visitors were denied a point by a stoppage time penalty for the second straight match, with Bristol City scoring the winner three minutes into added time through Famara Diedhiou.

QPR took the lead right on half-time through Matt Smith’s close range effort, just moments after Wells’s header hit the upright from a Luke Freeman cross.

Bristol City equalised in the 73rd minute when Niclas Eliasson found the net from a corner, before the hosts snatched all three points late on.

The defeat resulted in QPR dropping down into 16th position, 12 points adrift of the play-off places,
