Moment of joy for Vasco

Ricardo Ponte netted in Vasco's first win

The top and bottom two teams picked up wins as Southampton Rangers and Somerset Eagles continued their promotion push while Vasco finally got a victory under their belt yesterday.

Rangers beat Devonshire Colts 2-1 at Police Field where Ezekiel Stoneham and Jarazinho Bassett scored for the visiting side. Eagles defeated Wolves 3-1 at White Hill Field.

Charles Wade opened the scoring for Eagles, Anwar Telford doubled it before Marcus Ming pulled one back for Wolves.

Telford’s second goal in made certain of the win for the home team, who extended their lead over third-placed Hamilton Parish, whose match with Flanagan’s Onions was postponed because players from Parish expressed the desire to attend the funeral of George O’Brien, a former player and referee.

Bottom team Vasco finally picked up a win in their first season back in the league, beating St David’s 3-2 at Bernard Park on Saturday.

Goals from Ryan Parris and Ricardo Ponte in the space of two minutes during the first half put them in control.

Ronald Bell extended Vasco’s lead before St David’s hit back through Jamal Woodley and Deshun Hendrickson to make it close.

Ireland Rangers, second from bottom, picked up only their second win of the season, when goals from Sakai Proctor and Johnathan gave them 2-1 win over St George’s. Sage Paynter replied for the East Enders.

Rangers had not won in the league since September 16 when they beat Young Men’s Social Club 4-0, the week after drawing 1-1 with Southampton Rangers in their season-opener.

Rangers lost 8-0, 12-0 and 9-1 in their three league matches, making it 60 goals they had conceded in 13 games before this weekend.
