BAA and Vasco enjoy goal feast

Goals came fast and furious in Corona League action over the weekend with BAA Wanderers hitting nine and Vasco Mariners seven – St. David's and Robin Hood the respective victims.

Victories were also recorded by Tuff Dogs, Lobster Pot and Prison Officers.

St. David's 1 BAA Wanderers 9

The last game of the weekend saw Paul Colvin notch a hat-trick as the Greens overpowered St. David's.

From the whistle, BAA took the game to their opponents, setting up camp in the St. David's half and as BAA launched attack after attack it was only a combination of desperate defending and the woodwork that kept the score at 0-0 for the first half hour.

However, on 32 minutes it was young midfielder Oliver Labett who finally broke the deadlock after winning possession and holding off two St. David's defenders before slotting neatly into the bottom corner from 18 yards.

A second goal soon followed from the impressive Neal Churchill and a third just before half-time from the evergreen player/manager Paul Manders who headed in at the far post after fine work by Bruce Hadden.

On 52 minutes BAA scored a fourth through Colvin before St. David's pulled one back with Lionel Cann beating the offside trap to slot past goalkeeper Chris Hirst.

After Cann's goal, however, it was again one-way traffic as Martin Jones made it 5-1 on 65 minutes with a low strike, before Colvin added his second and BAA's sixth after 70 minutes.

Churchill notched his second to make it 7-1 on 78 minutes with a clever chip and midfielder Peter Coleman made it 8-1 with a trademark finish from inside the six-yard box.

It was then left to Colvin to cap a man-of-the-match display with a fine run and finish for his hat-trick and the scoring.

West End United 1 Tuff Dogs 2

Tuff Dogs maintained their 100 percent record with a hard earned 2-1 win courtesy of a Gary Adams brace.

Adams scored either side of the half with his first from the half-way line while the second was a screamer from 30 yards, giving his side a 2-0 lead.

West End made it a close finish when Francis DeSilva netted to make it 2-1, but they couldn't find an equaliser.

Dogs stay hot on the heels of leaders Vasco, who have played two more games.

Vasco Mariners 7 Robin Hood 0

A Rui Furtado hat-trick ensured Vasco stayed on top of the league as they thrashed Robin Hood.

Helping out the hat-trick hero in the scoring department were Andrew Bento, Stephan Teleman, Richard Holden and Richard Correia.

Lobster Pot 1 MR Onions 0

A Johnson Mugulusi strike was the difference between Pot and Onions in a closely contested match.

In a bottom of the table tussle, Pot goalkeeper Brian Ward had to make a stunning diving penalty to keep the score at 0-0.

But Mugulusi, who came on after the interval, broke the deadlock as he netted during a goalmouth scramble after 55 minutes.

Onions had one last chance with five minutes remaining, a thumping strike from the left saved by 'keeper Ward who tipped the ball over to secure Pot's first win of the season.

Prison Officers 3 Prospect Fire 0

Prison Officers scored three second-half goals to see off Prospect Fire.

Bermuda national team cricketer Stephen Outerbridge made an overlapping run and beat the advancing keeper with a low shot to make it 1-0 before Keith Jennings scored from a free kick that was well placed in the upper left corner of the net.

The third goal was scored by goalkeeper Dyke Lawrence, who converted a penalty.
