Whether you are just starting your career, unemployed or underemployed and need assistance with your job search, the Department of Workforce Development is offering free career development workshops to assist with career guidance.

The Department has organized two workshops at two different locations to ensure that residents from various areas of the island can easily access their services. The first will be held on Thursday, January 31 from 10:30am-2:30pm at the Warwick Workman’s Club and the second will be held on Thursday, February 7 from 10:30am-2:30pm at the St. George’s Cricket Club.

The public may recall that the Department organized a previous Career Development Training and Registration Drive in December at the Devonshire Recreation Club.

These workshops will assist individuals throughout the job search process from job readiness, to referrals to potential employers. The workshops will cover a variety of topics including resume development, interview skills, understanding what employers want, social media presence and employment, job search strategies and much more. The Bermuda College will be present at the workshops to promote their programs and to help persons understand the value of retraining or engaging in professional development.

“We really want to take the services of the Department ‘to the streets’, so to speak, and bring this one-stop-shop to the people,” explained the Minister of Labour, Community Affairs and Sports the Hon. Lovitta Foggo JP MP. “Anyone not employed or thinking of a career change, please come. Anyone who is a previous client of Workforce Development, please come and see us again; we have revamped our services. However, it should be stressed that this is not a job fair (employers will not be present); rather, staff will be there to help you best present yourself to potential employers, revamp your resume and enhance your chances of employment success.

“Since our last workshop, I am excited to say that we have had a few more partners join. For example, The Bermuda Regiment, who is currently in their peak recruitment period, will also be there. Additionally, Bermuda’s Sports Management Group will be present to engage persons in the sports community and encourage services for persons to transition into the workplace or college. Finally, The Labour Relations Department will participate to educate persons on their rights as an employee.”

The workshops are open to the general public. For more information, contact the Department of Workforce Development at 297-7714/16.
