Bermudian triathlete Flora Duffy has scooped yet more honours after part of her dominant display in the MS Amlin World Triathlon Bermuda last year was named the best bike breakaway of 2018 by the ITU World Triahtlon website.

Duffy could not have asked for a better race as her dominant performance captured her the MS Amlin World Triathlon Bermuda crown in front of thousands of cheering home fans.

The gold earned was her first WTS win of the season and a first for the inaugural event, with a comfortable victory margin of 96 seconds in the first Olympic-distance race of the season.

Assuming the lead in the swim and maintaining it for the bike and run, Duffy also became the first woman in WTS history to win a race having led in all three disciplines, including a 40-kilometre solo bike ride.

The website is running a Best of 2018 series of awards in which it is “showcasing the noteworthy, the remarkable, the powerful, the inspirational and the outstanding individuals that made us all fall in love with swimming, biking and running more than we already did”.

The website wrote: “Linking Flora Duffy to dominating bike performances is not a new connection. In fact, the Bermudian and two-time WTS World Champion is famous for her strength and tenacity in the cycle. But in 2018 her showcase in Bermuda, was next-level inspiring. She started the race coming out of the water first and busted through the first Transition on to the 1,500-metre course.

“While she started out with someone on her tail, it was her first push on Corkscrew Hill where she blasted off. Duffy couldn’t be touched, she was unstoppable and impressively rode a full 38.38km by herself.”
