Dandy Town advanced to the next round of the FA Cup without breaking stride in a comfortable victory over Paget at St John’s Field yesterday.

The home side were the clear favourites going into the cup tie against their struggling opponents and lived up to expectations with a fine display.

“You never want to take anything for granted so you always have to respect the opponent in front of you,” Devarr Boyles, the Town coach, said.

“The result is only secured when you go out on the field and play, and today I thought we certainly made an effort to do that.

“We just want to get to a final and the FA Cup gives us an opportunity to do that.”

Town’s convincing victory came at a cost as midfielder Mohamed Aden pulled a hamstring in the thirteenth minute and was replaced by Jahtino Richardson-Martin. The home side dominated every facet of the game and made the most of their chances against a Paget side whose task was made all the more daunting in the absence of suspended pair Jason Smith, the former Town goalkeeper, and striker Dion Stovell.

Town went straight for the jugular and took just two minutes to open their account, defender Kwonde Lathan sweeping home from close range from a free kick.

Michael Parsons then doubled Town’s advantage when he latched onto Angelo Simmons’s pass and beat goalkeeper Ricardo Brangman with a low drive.

Simmons then went from provider to scorer when he converted a penalty after being fouled by Brangman to send Town into the interval with a three-goal lead.

Paget went close to pulling one back when striker Akale Bean rattled the woodwork midway through the second half. Substitute Nizigh Spence then capped Town’s dominant display when he scored from a goalmouth scramble.
