A charity walk to raise funds for the island’s hospice is to be held during a rare lunar event.

Friends of Hospice, the charity set up to support Agape House, has scheduled their third annual Memorial Moon Walk on the evening of a rare “super blood wolf moon”.

Organisers said the walk would give people a chance to remember dead family and friends and raise cash for Agape House.

A spokesman for FoH said: “This is a wonderful way to spend an evening with nature, walking in what is promised to be a most spectacular moonlight to reflect on the lives of one’s loved ones who have died and to support Agape House.”

A “super wolf blood moon” is the combination of a supermoon — where the moon appears bigger and brighter than usual — and a blood moon, where a total lunar eclipse causes the moon to appear red.

The moon also counts as a “wolf moon”, a term given to the first full moon of the year.

The walk will start at Chaplin Bay in Warwick, go through Horseshoe Bay and finish back at Chaplin Bay.

Members of the Southampton Rangers Sports Club will act as guides for walkers.

A spokeswoman for FoH said that the money raised would go towards ways to help “enhance the quality of life for hospice patients and their loved ones”.

She added: “We encourage all of those who have lost loved ones to come and join us for this special event under the light of a spectacular moon.”

The walk will start at Chaplin Bay on January 21 at 6.30pm and participants should be on site at 6pm. Walkers should bring a flashlight and candle for the walk and vigil.

The walk costs $15 per person and must be paid in advance by contacting Friends of Hospice at 232-0859 or by e-mail at info@hospice.bm or on the night.
