Digicel will complete the roll-out of its new “Fibre-to-the-Home” network this year, the telecommunications company said today.

The service, which will take the fibre-optic network all the way to the home — differentiating it from rivals, Digicel says — will be able to provide download speeds of up to 200 megabytes per second.

Digicel will use the technology to offer advanced Fibre TV and internet services, the company said this morning.

“Our technology will be a game-changer as it will finally deliver the much-awaited true fibre experience that customers want,” said Julian Burton, chief commercial officer of Digicel Bermuda and BTC.

“This means vast bandwidth for superfast download and upload speeds with zero buffering; so you can live stream your favourite concert in one room, while online gaming and video calling take place in other parts of the house — seamlessly.”

Digicel states that a fibre connection that goes all the way into the home will deliver faster speeds and higher service quality in comparison to fibre that stops at the curb and then takes the signal into the home via copper cables.

FTTH is part of Digicel’s $50 million dollar investment in Bermuda to deliver a network for the future.
