Swindon no longer interested in Smith
Jonté Smith will not be moving to Sky Bet League Two side Swindon Town during the transfer window this month.
Smith netted a hat-trick in a behind-closed-doors friendly for Swindon last month but has not done enough to convince Richie Wellens to sign the Bermuda striker.
Wellens said he was no longer interested in the 24-year-old, who plays for non-League side Lewes. “We had a look at him in a practice match,” Wellens told the Swindon Advertiser in a recent interview. “But we won’t be taking that any further. Trials are great, you get to see players in the flesh against what we have got. We want a striker, but in terms on Jonté Smith nothing will be happening.”
Smith, a former Crawley Town striker, played in Lewes’ 3-0 defeat at home to Burgess Hill Town on New Year’s Day.
