Depleted St.David's pull out of Knockout

St. David's have pulled out of the Commercial Cricket League, leaving six clubs to contest the Knockout and Twenty20 League Cup competitions.

Club president Aaron Lugo withdrew his side this week following three defaults which left them rooted to the bottom of the league table.

Lugo apologised for his side not completing the season, adding: "Next season will be an issue if we don't get a coach or a few more mature players too."

St. David's' departure has handed BC Allrounders a place in the semi-finals of the Knockout which starts tomorrow.

Ernst & Young also drew a bye into the last four.

Newly-crowned league champions Forties, who have won the Knockout 15 times since being formed in 1983, face North Village in one of tomorrow's matches at Shelly Bay while the other pits Caribbean Cup rivals Spring Garden Cavaliers against Jamaican Association at Warren Simmons Community Field.

North Village have twice beaten Forties in the league this season and will fancy their chances of making it three wins in a row despite being without the services of key all-rounder Reggie Benjamin, who is away on holiday.

"We are expecting to be at full strength apart from Reggie," said Village skipper Allen Walker.

"Reggie has been our team leader in taking the most wickets for us this year but the team has stepped up when we have been without key players throughout the whole year, which is always good."

Cavaliers, who narrowly lost last season's final to Forties, have twice beaten Jamaican Association in the league this season.

"Barry Richards is unavailable, but other than that we should be pretty much at full strength." said Cavaliers' skipper Richard Foulds.
