Jamaican Association’s win erased
Jamaican Association’s four-wicket victory over Commercial Cricket League rivals North Village at the end of last month has been declared null and void following a scheduling error. It was the fourth time the clubs met in the league this season one more than intended after the schedule was revised following the withdrawal of Devonshire Stars.Clubs normally play each other twice in the league, but organisers decided to introduce a third match between the remaining four clubs after Stars quit following a third default.Said league secretary Dave Carrurthers: “The recently revised Commercial League playing schedule contained an error which resulted in an unnecessary game being played on July 29 between North Village and the Jamaican Association.“It follows that no points should be awarded to either team as a result of this game. My apologies to all concerned . . . I can only hope that it is regarded as a ‘bonus’ game and that it was enjoyed by all participants.”The two clubs shared the points in an unfinished match on the first day of the season in May and traded victories in July before the fourth meeting.Defending champions Spring Garden Cavaliers, meanwhile, have taken a firm grip on the title following two victories over last year’s runners-up Forties, who have struggled to field a full side in their 30th season.Cavaliers lead Forties and Jamaican Association, who are tied on 50 points, by 17 points, and have a game in hand.Village are fourth on 43 points, but have a game in hand on Forties and Jamaican Association.Village take on Forties at Shelly Bay on Sunday after last weekend’s Cup Match break, while Cavaliers face the Jamaicans in the first of back-to-back fixtures over the next fortnight, the first at Garrison Field and the second at Shelly Bay when the West Indian rivals are expected to compete for the annual Caribbean Cup.COMMERCIAL CRICKET LEAGUE(42 overs per side)StandingsP W D L PtsSG Cavaliers 8 5 3 0 67Forties 9 3 4 2 50Jam Assoc 9 3 4 2 50North Village 8 3 3 2 43x-Dev Stars 8 0 0 8 0x-Devonshire Stars have withdrawn from the league but their record in the first two rounds stands.Sunday’s league fixtures: Jamaican Association v Spring Garden Cavaliers, Garrison Field; North Village v Forties.
