Police put their fourth-place league finish behind them by crushing runners-up The Associates by 56 runs in the Evening League’s Premier Division knockout final, while Second Division champions Airport High Flyaz celebrated promotion to the top flight next season by thrashing PWC Byes by eight wickets in their final.Police, who rallied in the second half of the season, reached the final after dispatching league champions Belmont in last week’s semi-finals and had too much power for The Associates.Man of the match Jordache Rawson propelled Police to 169 for five from their 20 overs, topscoring with 85, and then saw The Associates struggle to 113 for six in reply.Rawson was well supported by David Pringle (37) while Marc Wetherhill was pick of the The Associates attack with four for 32.Simon Jones made 41 and Gary Knight 20 but The Associates, who narrowly beat Fine Leg Byes in the semi-finals, were kept on the back foot as Andre Smit snapped up three for 13.“We had a very poor start to the season, only winning two games in the first round of the league season,” said Police skipper Richard Hinwood.“We won all our games in the second half a big improvement so we scraped into the knockout semis on a count-out with the Tuff Dogs based on runs per wicket lost for the season (both tied on 26 points).“We then peaked at the knockout stage, which was great. We definitely did have a massive turnaround as we were looking down the relegation barrel at one stage.”Airport High Flyaz raced to victory with 50 balls to spare after restricting PWC Byes to 82 for nine in Saturday’s opener at Shelly Bay.PWC Byes had no answer to man of the match Jamie Pitcher, who claimed four for 11, and Chris Clarke (three for 21), only Philip Smith (32) offering any resistance.In reply, Airport High Flyaz raced to 83 for two in the 12th over with John Jackson making 41 and Winston Simmons 27 not out.Renegades, who finished bottom of the Premier Division standings, were relegated to the second flight for the 2012 season, league organiser Stephen West who umpired along with Wilbur Pitcher confirmed before trophies and prizes were handed out by cricket commentator Jim Woolridge.n Spring Garden Cavaliers, bidding for an unprecedented fourth Commercial Cricket League trophy this season, will face Forties in the 40 overs Knockout Cup at Shelly Bay on Sunday, starting at 12.30pm.League champions for the second year running, Cavaliers have also won the Memorial Trophy and Twenty20 League Cup.
