Trey Mallory started his end-of-year campaign in the ITF Anguilla J3 Tournament with a gutsy performance, winning his opening match 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 over Nicholas Godsick, of the United States, yesterday.
Godsick is a top ranked US junior and son of Mary Jo Fernández, the former world No 4, and Tony Godsick, the agent of Roger Federer.
Mallory prepared for the tournament at an intense training week in Boca Raton, Florida, under Bermuda based coach James Collieson.
Carlton Bedminster, of Antigua, has travelled to Anguilla as Mallory’s coach.
Mallory faced No 4 seed Fnu Nidunjianzan, of China, today.
