Busy Arraignments session
A homeless man admitted he wounded his girlfriend with intent to cause grievous bodily harm yesterday.
Jamal Edward Fray, 39, denied attempting to murder Kelli Denez Edwards on May 13, but admitted an alternative charge – wounding her with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The victim, 39, was reported at the time to be Fray's girlfriend.
She was stabbed at around 2.10 p.m. on the date in question in Marsh Folly Road, Pembroke.
Mr. McColm said the plea to the alternative, less serious, charge was acceptable to the Crown.
Mr. Justice Greaves ordered pre-sentence reports on Fray, of no fixed abode, and remanded him into custody until October 1.
Meanwhile, Arnold Astwood, the man accused of murdering 26-year-old Ruth Binns on or about September 25, 2007, will go on trial on January 12, 2009.
In addition, two men accused of murdering 30-year-old Aquil Richardson on Boxing Day 2007 saw January 26 2009 set as the date for their trial.
Antoine Herbert Anderson, 31, and Phillip Anthony Bradshaw, 26, a Jamaican national, are also accused of wounding Lavar Smith with intent to do him grievous bodily harm.
In another matter, Sherica Davina Trott, 24, of Glebe Road, Pembroke, denied importing cannabis on February 1 this year and also possessing cannabis with intent to supply it on that date. She was bailed to return to court on October 1.
A 29-year-old defendant, Fredjuan Eugene Hughes, of Railway Terrace West, Pembroke, pleaded not guilty to an allegation that he wounded 43-year-old Michael Eugene Dillas on February 8 with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm. He was remanded into custody until October 1.
