Selley earns case of beer

On you marks: racing continues at the Rubis Southside Raceway next Sunday. It will be the fifth race day of the series

David Selley made a triumphant return to the Bermuda Karting Club race series as he chalked up three wins in the Tag Senior class.

Selley, more well-known for his powerboating exploits, will be rewarded for his efforts with a case of beer from Scott Barnes whose kart he raced in the fourth race day of the series.

With Barnes off the island, he invited Selley to take the wheel in order to earn the No 9 kart some championship points.

“I had David driving my kart just to keep up the points for me.” Barnes, the former BKC president, explained.

“You’re allowed to have up three people [throughout the season] to fill in for you. The points go to the kart; mine will get the points.

“I told him he would get a case of beer of he wins for motivation. I guess he wanted that case!

“He did a good job for me and got me some points for the day, which was awesome. Hopefully he will be out in his own kart in the next race day. He’s been wrapping up his powerboat season.”

In the Cadet class Nile Bean picked up a pair of wins, with Jacob Hines claiming the other heat.

“Nile is the most experienced in that class — he’s been away [racing overseas] a bunch of times. The [Cadets] actually have some better races than the adults.”

David Barbosa completed a clean sweep in the L206 Masters, with his team-mate Jeff Sousa finishing runner-up in each heat.

In the Tag Juniors, one of the most competitive classes, Ashley Horseman earned three victories, while Ryan Rebello won his three heats in the Shifters.

“There hasn’t one person dominating in the Tag Juniors,” Barnes said. “Both of the girls, Ashley and Jorja [Thomas] have been battling up front.

“That championship will go right down to the wire. It’s a great battle.”
