Shares of Butterfield Bank declined by $1, or 1.9 per cent, to $50.50 after 290 traded on The Royal Gazette/BSX Index. The bank’s shares also fell on the New York Stock Exchange, ending 59 cents lower, or 1.14 per cent, at $51.15.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index was down 44.98 points, or 1.55 per cent, at 2,850.93.

The BSX Insurance Index was down 10.49 points, or 0.7 per cent, at 1,490.19.
