Tucker’s Point earned three accolades so far in 2011

Tucker’s Point Hotel has received three industry accolades so far this year.Meanwhile, HSBC’s Deputy CEO said the Rosewood stamp of approval is indicative of the high quality of the Bermuda hotel.Tucker’s Point was one of two Caribbean hotels mentioned in the exclusive ‘Andrew Harper’s Hideaway Report’; placed on the gold list in ‘Conde Nast’s Traveler’ and was named one of the top 500 hotels in the world by ‘Travel and Leisure’.General Manager Brian Young said: “We’re thrilled to receive these accolades particularly because it is a direct result of our guests’ experiences and sentiments about Tucker’s Point.“To be included is an honour not just for the hotel, but for the Island of Bermuda.”The announcement came days after the receivership of Newstead Belmont Hills Golf Resort. Butterfield Bank recalled the hotel’s loan after 18 months of negotiations.Newstead Belmont was the first luxury redevelopment of a hotel in 35 years when it opened in 2008.Previous reports in this paper state the Tucker’s Point Hotel was partially financed through an $85 million loan from the Bank of Bermuda, now HSBC. The hotel opened in 2009.When asked about the hotel’s financing yesterday HSBC’s Richard Mosley said: “I cannot comment on individual customers but I can say that Tucker’s Point Hotel is a great hotel.“The fact that Rosewood are looking to bring it in as part of their hotels is indicative that they believe in the future of Tucker’s Point Hotel.”Earlier this year Texas-based Rosewood took over the management and marketing of the hotel. The Rosewood group manages hotels such as The Carlyle in New York.The 2011 mention of Tucker’s Point in the ‘Andrew Harper’s Hideaway Report’ is the first time a Bermuda hotel has been mentioned in the luxury travel, members only, newsletter.The discerning newsletter features insightful reviews from his incognito stays at new properties, iconic hotels and luxury resorts.In addition to being one of two Caribbean hotels picked as his top 16 hotels in 2011 Mr Young won Hotel Manager of the Year.
