Bolero video proves an internet hit
A local restaurant’s creative approach to advertising in this tough economy is getting a lot of attention online.Bolero Brasserie’s artfully shot video by Bermudian producer Andrew Kirkpatrick has been viewed hundreds of times since being posted last week on YouTube. It received nearly 200 views in its first 24 hours.A number of customers over the weekend came up to comment on the ad and even people as far away as Europe have e-mailed him, said Jonny Roberts, chef/owner of Bolero at 95 Front Street.Mr Kirkpatrick owns Burnt House Productions and worked on the documentary “In the Hour of Victory” with Lucinda Spurling.Mr Roberts said he noticed Mr Kirkpatrick’s cliff jumping videos on YouTube and thought he could use his unique approach to film an ad for the restaurant.“I wanted a different approach to advertising Bolero,” Mr Roberts said. “I wanted it to show the inner workings of Bolero to show the reality of what goes on here. I wanted it be ‘alive, natural and real’ and not staged in any way.“I have some very talented people working here and I thought it was important to show case them, as they are the reason why Bolero is so successful. I am very grateful to them for the hard work they do and the long hours they do. They deserve recognition for that.”The video shows staff preparing to open, customers arriving and chefs at work.It was filmed over a period of three days.“It is ‘an all real, as it happened’ shoot,” said Mr Roberts, who opened Bolero in 2007.“We filmed during the summer so the kitchen was extremely hot. Andrew was there in the thick of five continuously busy services, dodging us as we worked. He started filming every morning at 10am and stayed right through the day with us until we finished at the end of the night.”Mr Roberts said that despite the state of the economy, Bolero was not doing too badly.“Of course, we have our quiet days, but we are fortunate enough to have a strong local and business following which keeps us ticking over,” he said.Mr Roberts added the video is an extension of the montage of photos on Bolero’s walls, the photo gallery on our website www.bolerobrasserie.com and his own cookbook ‘Chefs Don’t Feel Pain’, which all capture daily life at Bolero.
