Tyler Butterfield finished second at the Ironman 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championship in Cebu, the Philippines, today.
The Bermudian completed the course in 3hr 47min 39secs — 54 seconds behind winner Mauricio Mendez, of Mexico. New Zealand’s Braden Currie finished third in 3:48:12.
Butterfield, 35, was sixth after transition one, in 27:39, and was in the lead at T2 in 2:32:57, as part of a top group of three, with Currie and fellow Kiwi Mike Phillips.
However, he was caught by Mendez in the later stages of the run - indeed, he was still in the lead after 11 kilometres of the 20.8km run portion.
