Girls and boys teams eye spots in final
The Bermuda juniors boys went undefeated in their opening round of team play at the Junior Caribbean Squash Championships currently being played in Jamaica as both themselves and the girls team look to advance to the finals.The boys continued their winning ways in the team matches, coming away with victories over Trinidad and the Bahamas to earn a spot in the semi-finals.Under-17 D’Vario Thompson and under-13 Dylan Pratt stared in the matches with 3-1 and 3-0 victories respectively, while under-19 Noah Browne sealed the victory with a 3-0 win.Under-15 Ryan Hopkins lost to his opponent 3-0, giving Trinidad their only win of the day as the group won the series 3-1.They finished yesterday’s team matches with a decisive 5-0 win over the Bahamas, with the Caribbean country not fielding an under-13 or under-15 player.Conceding the points for those two matches to Bermuda, Thompson, under-19 players Beau Orchard and Noah Browne finished off their opponents 3-0 to clinch the comprehensive win.It wasn’t all sunshine, however, as the girls were made to fight for every point they got, losing to Trinidad on Tuesday 4-1.Under-17 Emma Keane and under-13 Olivia Lindsey went down to opponents who had also narrowly defeated them in individuals, losing 3-0 and 3-1 respectively.Under-19 Alex Marshall captured the team’s one win for the day, soundly defeating her opponent in three games.Trinidad captured the win in the next match, defeating Under-15 Tiye Williams 3-0, and finished off the day’s matches by beating under-19 Alyssa Brewer 3-0.The girls face Jamaica tonight to continue the round robin between the six female teams at the tournament, while the boys team play Guyana hoping to move on to today’s finals.
