Seagull Race record entry raises $4,000

A record number of people registered to take part in the 2012 Heineken Round the Island Seagull Race, raising $4,000 in the processOf the 70 registered boats, 66 began the race and 55 finished under their own power.Michael Bean in Slippery was the first to cross the finish line in the June 23 race. The Harrison/Williams Shield, given to the first all-female crew to finish, was awarded to Danielle Lightbourn and Pansy Olander, the crew of In the Pink.Funds raised benefit the Bermuda Reef Ecosystem Analysis and Mapping (BREAM) programme at the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo. Scientists at BREAM are dedicated to studying and conserving Bermuda’s coral reefs.
