The 29th annual Pals Walk will be held on Sunday, February 19, to support patient cancer care in Bermuda.

Funds will go towards medical care, equipment and supplies for cancer patients in Bermuda.

Last year’s event attracted a record 641 participants and raised $46,191; this year the charity is aiming for 700 participants and hope to raise $50,000.

The event, which is sponsored by Clarien Bank, Colonial Insurance and Butterfield & Vallis, will feature three distance options, 3K, 5K or 10K, to suit walkers of all ages and abilities. It will start and finish at Pals Headquarters at 18 Point Finger Road, Paget, with all routes following the scenic Railway Trail.

Participants must register before the event. There will be no registration on the day of the walk. Registration fee is $25 for adults, or $15 for children from 5 to 15. There is no fee for children under 5.

Registrations can be made:

• online at www.pals.bm until Friday, February 17, at 5pm;

• in person at Pals Headquarters every day from 9.30am to 4.30pm until Friday, February 17;

• at Washington Mall from 11.30am to 1.30pm on February 6, 8, 10, 13 or 15.

• At Pals Headquarters on Saturday, February 18, from 9am noon.

The first 600 adults and 100 children to register will receive a special “goodie bag”.

All participants who raise more than $100 in pledges and return their forms by February 28 will be entered into a prize draw for a $750 travel voucher on March 3. The person who raises the most money will win a $1,000 travel voucher. There will also be draw prizes following the walk but winners must be present to claim their prize.

Karen Dyer, Pals executive director, stated: “The Pals Walk is our major annual fundraiser and we are delighted that our lead sponsor Clarien Bank has agreed to continue its valuable support of the event, along with Colonial Insurance.

“This year we are also pleased to welcome Butterfield & Vallis as a sponsor. The new routes we introduced last year proved extremely popular and attracted over 500 more walkers than 2015. We encourage the whole community to join the journey and walk with us for cancer care in Bermuda.”

Michael DeCouto, chief marketing officer of Clarien Bank, said: “Clarien is proud to again play a leading role in supporting Pals and the important and valuable service it provides to housebound cancer patients.

“We look forward to helping this year’s event be the most successful yet. Many of our employees will be actively involved either as participants or volunteers and we urge the community to come out and walk with us”.
