Lambe looks to make impact at Cambridge

Two-year-deal: Bermuda captain Reggie Lambe puts pen to paper at Abbey StadiumPhotograph @CambridgeUtdFC

Reggie Lambe said he hopes to deliver some “eye-catching” performances after signing for Sky Bet League Two side Cambridge United.

The Bermuda captain, who trained with his new team-mates yesterday, became the club’s fourth signing of the summer after penning a two-year deal.

“I am delighted to have signed with Cambridge United,” Lambe told The Royal Gazette.

“There’s a good look to the team, players with great technical ability.

“I look forward to linking up with them and producing some eye-catching football along with positive results.”

The 27-year-old winger became a free agent after being released by League Two side Carlisle United, where he scored 14 goals in 80 appearances, at the end of last season.

“I am absolutely delighted to finally put pen to paper at Cambridge United,” Lambe told the club’s website. “It’s taken a while but there was never any doubt about my decision to sign for Cambridge.

“After speaking to the management staff about the focus and style of play for the upcoming season, the decision was made very easy for me.

“Now that the paperwork is out of the way I can fully focus on the work that matters on the pitch.”

Ben Strang, the Cambridge head of football, is thrilled to have secured the services of Lambe, who he said was a “priority target” for the club during the transfer window.

“We’ve admired Reggie’s qualities for a long time,” Strang said. “He brings versatility and complements the existing attacking options within the squad.

“From day one, he was a priority target so we’re thrilled to complete the signing and look forward to working with Reggie for the next two years.

“He’s proven at the level, is a terrific team player, carries the ball well, and is technically excellent. We firmly believe he’ll be a player that will excite our fans and contribute greatly to the team.”

George Taft, Barry Corr and Louis John are the other players Cambridge have signed this summer.

Cambridge finished twelfth last season, two places below Lambe’s former club Carlisle.

Cambridge are Lambe’s sixth professional club, having previously had stints at Ipswich Town, Toronto FC, Nyköpings BIS in Sweden, Mansfield Town and Carlisle. He also had a loan spell at Bristol Rovers.

Lambe has won 28 caps for Bermuda and netted six goals.
