Drunk driver ignored traffic sign
A 38-year-old man was fined $600 this morning for drink driving.
Paulo Alvernaz Garcia pleaded guilty to providing a sample of breath above the legal limit.
Magistrates’ Court heard that Garcia was stopped after failing to stop at a traffic sign on Middle Road in Southampton at about midnight on May 5.
The court heard that Garcia’s eyes were glazed and his breath smelled of alcohol.
When asked by police if he had been drinking Garcia said: “I had three beers.”
A later breath test showed 151 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood — close to double the legal limit of 80.
Magistrate Tyrone Chin also banned Garcia from operating any vehicles for 18 months.
Garcia was also fined $50 for disobeying a traffic sign.
