Hardknockz take top spot by beating Angels
Hardknockz took possession of first place in the Women’s Softball Division with an 8-5 victory over Angels.
Angels scored three times in the sixth thanks, in part, to a Debbie DeShields (3-3) double to take a short-lived 5-4 lead.
Hardnockz rallied with four runs in the bottom half of the inning with Tamesha Wolfe (2-3) and Keisante Grant delivering key hits. Tache King smacked a triple that plated two runs for the winners in the inning. Hardknockz are now 6-1 and leads Angels by a game.
The other women’s contest saw PHC Zebras down Outback Skylights 26-3. PHC captain Tawana Fox (2-4) drove home four runs, while clean-up hitter Akanke Parsons (3-4) knocked home four team-mates in the win.
Alex Pisarek, Desi Butterfield, and Stacey Paynter all had two hits for the Skylights. PHC are 3-4, and Outback are 0-7.
In the Corporate Division, Butterfield & Vallis Sliders beat PWC 16-3. Aaron Madeiros had a three-run homer for the Sliders, while team-mates Brent Minors and Brian Ming both had three hits.
Lead-off batter Warren Miller and Ross Rufiange both had two hits in the losing cause for PWC. The win brings Butterfield’s record to 2-4, while PWC are now 0-6.
Those were the only games played this week as two days of rain washed out Tuesday and Wednesday’s matches. The wet weather rendered the field unplayable on Thursday.
Matches are scheduled to resume this week with contests on Monday through Thursday, starting at 6pm at Michael Preece Stadium at Bernard Park.
