Road ban over breath sample refusal

A 53-year-old Southampton man was banned from the road for a year today and fined $800 after refusing to give a sample of breath to police.

David Jones pled guilty to refusing a sample when stopped under suspicion of driving while impaired on May 5. Police were attended to a collision in the area of South Road near Camp Hill, Warwick, when they noticed Jones driving.

He turned up Camp Hill and was seen almost crashing into a police motorcycle. When police spoke to him they noticed his speech was slurred, his eyes were glazed, his breath smelled of alcohol and he was swaying.

He was banned from driving all vehicles for a year and fined $800.
