Shares of Ascendant Group rose $1.10, or 9.2 per cent, to $14.95 after 418 traded on The Royal Gazette/BSX Index.

Also improving was Argus Group Holdings, up seven cents, or 1.8 per cent, at $3.92 after 8,200 shares were exchanged. Meanwhile, Butterfield Bank was up 75 cents, or 1.6 per cent, at $48.50 after 1,480 shares changed hands.

On the New York Stock Exchange, Butterfield’s shares were up 56 cents, or 1.17 per cent, at $48.46.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index was up 45.74 points, or 1.71 per cent, at 2,723.56.

The BSX Insurance Index was up 12.15 points, or 0.66 per cent, at 1,857.47.
